I am sure you have seen a lot of Green Quaker parrots. They are very adaptable and easily form large numbers of colonies in different areas. But have you ever seen a yellow Quaker parrot? Do you know about the Lutino Quaker Parrot?

The Lutino Quaker parrot also known as the Yellow Quaker parrot is a sex-linked mutation of the Quaker parrot in which the entire body color is yellow instead of white. The Lutino Quaker is regarded as a “specially designed ” parrot because its coloration is different from the normal Green Quaker.

Lutino Quaker Parrot

Lutino gene mutations affect grey pigments, resulting in Lutino Quakers lacking blue, grey, and green colors. Rather, they have an entirely yellow color, which is generally a bright, vibrant yellow.

However, this does not affect the parrot’s personality, ability to talk, or health. The characteristics of these parakeets are similar to those of normal Quaker parakeets. Continue reading to learn more about Lutino Quaker parrots.

Origin and history

Quaker parakeets reside in South America, especially in Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina, and Brazil. There is a high prevalence of these species in open savannas, scrub forests, and palm groves where there is little rainfall. Also, they can be found in city parks, on farms, and in yards throughout South America.

The escaped birds have established breeding colonies in several North American cities, like Chicago and Miami. In many states, Quaker parrots are illegal, so check local laws before purchasing a Lutino Quaker.

Size and Appearance

The Lutino Quaker parrot is a small bird that reaches a maximum length of 9 inches and weighs between 80 and 100 grams. In comparison to the green color of the normal Quaker parakeet, the Lutino Quaker parrot’s entire plumage is a stunning and mesmerizing bright yellow.

They have white feathers around their faces, rather than grey feathers. Normal Quakers have blue flight feathers, but these birds have pure white feathers, creating an impressive display during flight. Due to their peculiar genetics, all Lutino animals have red eyes, including the Lutino Quaker.

There’s no sexual dimorphism in this species, so there’s no difference between males and females. Those parrots can only be sexed with a DNA test.

Just like the normal Quaker parrot, Lutino Quaker parrots are intelligent, sociable, and curious. As a result of their humorous antiques and acrobatic performances, they are known as a clown. Generally, they do not like being alone and prefer to be around their owner or flock at all times.

They are good for beginners and make excellent family pets. I enjoy watching their antics whenever I can. They are devoted to their owners and have a strong bond.

Most breeders and owners agreed that well-socialized, hand-fed Quaker babies make excellent pets. Nevertheless, I have found that most birds will make excellent pets if they are treated with patience and love.

There are few birds as hardy as the Lutino quaker. Lutino Quaker Parrots live between 20 and 30 years. They might get depressed if left alone for a long time. As long as Lutino Quakers parrots are closely integrated into the household, they build strong bonds with humans.

Lutino Quaker Talking Ability

Lutino Quaker parrots, like the Quaker parakeet, are excellent talking birds, which is one of the reasons for their popularity around the world. It is well known that Quakers are exceptionally adept at mimicking human speech.

Additionally, they are capable of learning a wide range of words and sounds, and they possess a clear voice that usually rivals that of larger species of parrots. It is easy for them to learn new words and phrases when kept in one cage.

There’s just one problem. These parrots will likely get you into trouble with your landlord or neighbor due to their loud nature.

Caring for a Lutino Quaker Parrot

Cage: A Lutinoo Quaker parrot requires a cage measuring 24 inches by 24 inches by 24 inches. However, bigger is always better when it comes to bird cages.

Toys and Perches: Encourage physical activity in your parrot by providing various toys and perches. This will keep them occupied and prevent them from becoming bored.

Diet: Make sure your Yellow Quaker parrot consumes a balanced diet throughout its life to ensure its health. Ideally, pellets should make up 70% of a well-balanced diet, fruits, and vegetables 20%, and seeds 10%.

Grooming: For your safety and your parrot’s, it is essential to trim your parrot’s nails and clip its wings. Make sure they get regular baths because they love it.

Health Issue

The Latino Quaker mutation occurs when certain genes suppress other genes. As a result of the Lutino gene, the expression of other color genes is reduced or completely suppressed. In the long run, this will make the birds’ eyesight worse and make them more disease prone.

Due to its recessive nature, the lutino gene must be present in both parents. Thus, it is very common for breeders to pair males as well as females of the lutino species to produce lutino offspring. It is common for these offspring to be afflicted with diseases as a consequence of their weak immune systems.

If a breeder is serious about breeding lutino babies, he or she will always pair split lutino gene birds. In a split gene, the gene is there but isn’t being expressed. The immune system of babies whose parents are split lutino is stronger. You must inquire whether the parents of the parrot are lutino or split for lutino before buying a lutino quaker parrot.

 Lutino Quaker Parrot Lifespan

According to your knowledge, the lifespan of a Quaker Parrot is 20-30 years. So, the Lutino Quaker parrot has a life expectancy of 20-30 years.

But it all comes down to how well you care for your bird. It is expected that a well-maintained Lutino Quaker parrot will be able to attain the lifespan mentioned above.

Where to buy a Lutino Quaker parrot

While Quaker parrots are easily available, lutino Quaker parrots are more difficult to find in pet stores or at your local breeder. Finding a lutino Quaker parrot requires some effort and time.

Furthermore, they are more expensive than regular Quaker parakeets. However, it is possible to purchase a Lutino Quaker parrot from Goldencockatoo and Parrotstars for a price of $950 or more.
